2019-09-19

Box Hill Institute Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Coordinator, Len Raines has received the Air Conditioning & Mechanical Contractor’s Association (AMCA) Distinguished Service Award at the Training Achievement Awards and Industry dinner night held on Saturday 7 September 2019.

Accompanied by Box Hill Institute senior leaders, Len was recognised for his longstanding contribution to the industry and his strong reputation as a teacher.

The AMCA contribute to the success of their members by helping provide safe, healthy and productive spaces for people to live, work and play.

Len said, "It was huge honour to be recognised by industry for this award. I started in 2001 at Box Hill Institute and it is nearly 2020. I still feel my passion is with the refrigeration department and industry to bring the best out of apprentices.

"With the support of Box Hill Institute, industry and the government, we were very fortunate to build the RCCC building for training. This award was only possible with the support from my managers and the refrigeration team of teachers," he said.

As a permanent testimony of his long commitment to education and training the Air Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors’ Association (AMCA) proudly bestows its Distinguished Service Award on Leonard Raines.

After a career in the Industry, Len chose to pursue a career as a teacher with Box Hill Institute and over the years has both taught and mentored many young people. His contribution to the training of apprentices and upskilling people in the industry has been both outstanding and varied.

He also played a critical role in informing the design of the state-of-the-art RCCC building at Elgar campus and continues to work in collaboration with AMCA to ensure that the building, resources and teachers drive the highest quality outcomes. He is respected by his team at BHI and is highly regarded within industry, especially by his apprentices and employers.

Len not only continues to work to ensure that students grow into proud and successful learns who are valued within their industry, but if asked how to define him in words, it would be a man with the highest levels of honesty and integrity and a person that continues to give back. The AMCA now recognises his contribution to the industry by awarding its Distinguished Service Award.

Congratulations Len!
