This work education course provides you with the opportunity to develop your work ready skills, knowledge and behaviours to prepare you for employment. The course is run by Box Hill Institute for a variety of disability service providers and is delivered on campus.
Do you know what you want to do but need a little more help to get there? Have you identified an industry that you would like to learn more about or work in? This course will give you the skills you need to explore the job roles within your chosen industry, learn about work place safety and understand the behaviours that are required to find and keep a fantastic job!
You will learn about different jobs in your chosen industry of interest and identify the skills that you need for those jobs. You will also gain an understanding of your own qualities and the employment support services that can help you when you need it. You will be given opportunities for hands-on experience as part of your work placement, so that you can practice your new skills and identify areas for future learning.
Your friendly teachers will be with you every step of the way to support you with your learning and give you feedback on how you are going. Delivery and assessment will be adjusted to support your success and encourage you towards a bright future!

This course helps you to improve your employability and work readiness skills for supported or open employment or further vocational education pathways.
This course is intended for post compulsory school age learners with evidence of a permanent cognitive and/or intellectual disability, who wish to improve their work readiness skills with the aim of securing employment . Before enrolment, learners complete a paper based literacy and numeracy assessment and pre training review to determine if the course is suitable and meets the learner's needs.
It is recommended that students first complete 22566VIC Certificate I in Work Education, however there are no formal prerequisites.
This course is run by Box Hill Institute for a variety of disability service providers. If you wish to apply, your disability service provider will refer you to the Box Hill Institute Course Coordinator.
PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.
After successfully completing the course you may wish to progress into a variety of Certificate II vocational education pathways.
