About the course

The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) is a flexible certificate designed for students in Years 11 and 12 who would benefit from an individualised program at a more accessible level than the VCE or VCE Vocational Major. The Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC) was introduced in 2023 for and is suited to 16-18 year old learners who may not have completed Year 10 studies or who have interrupted studies.

Entry Requirements


You must:

  • complete an Exemption From School form with your current school if you are under 17 years old (can take up to 4 weeks)
  • be between the ages of 16 year and 18
  • have attempted Year 10, Certificate I in CGEA (or equivalent)
  • have literacy skills (minimum level 1) and numeracy skills (minimum level 1) of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF)

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Course Structure


VPC at Box Hill Institute 

There are 2 year levels in Vocational Pathways Certificate (VPC) at Box Hill Institute.  If you decide to, you can add an enrolment in a VET program as a separate application and enrolment or participate in Structured Workplace Learning (SWL).  VPC at Box Hill Institute is a practical program that gets you ready for the future. 

Each student must attain 12 credits in total over a period of 2 years comprising of: 

Year 11 

  • 2 VPC literacy skills units 
  • 2 VPC numeracy skills units 
  • 2 VPC work related skills units
  • 2 VPC personal development skills units 

Year 12 

  • 2 VCE VM literacy skills units 
  • 2 VCE VM numeracy skills units 
  • 2 VCE VM work related skills units 
  • 2 VCE VM personal development skills units 

Upon successful completion of our VPC program, you can transition to a Year 12 VCE VM course or straight into vocational study.  

VET Programs for Your Future Career 

Despite being a full-time program, VPC classes run over just 3 days.  This means that if you choose, you can pursue part-time vocational studies or complete an SBAT in one of the other amazing courses available at Box Hill Institute and begin your dream career while completing Year 11 and 12. Find the course you want at the right level for you This will be a separate application and enrolment from your VPC enrolment.   

VPC Structure Workplace Learning  

Where suitable, students can participate in a customised workplace learning program.  This is about 100hrs of workplace learning in a project developed by BHI staff with our local community.  

 

**Note - Individual study timetables are discussed and determined during your pre-enrolment interview. The number of programs selected depends on individual circumstances and previous studies.
