About the course

In this course you'll learn the fundamentals of all things electrical and gain the electrotechnology skills and knowledge for the trade.  Our electrotechnology electrician apprenticeship will provide you with practical experience in the industry. 

Under the leadership of current industry professionals you will learn how to use hand and power tools, how to install and terminate wiring systems for network communications, and learn how to maintain and repair apparatus and associated electrical circuits.

You'll also learn to fabricate, assemble and dismantle utility components, solve problems in DC circuits and low voltage AC circuits and repair various electro-tech equipment.  You'll be able to diagnose and rectify faults, commission procedures of apparatus and associated circuits and design and install switchboards and installations.

After successful completion you will be entitled to undertake the Energy Safe Victorian A Grade unrestricted License examinations. Further studies after successful completion of the A Grade Unrestricted License examination can enable you to become self employed electrical contractors.

Entry Requirements


Industry gives preference to those students who have completed Year 11 and show an ability to cope with mathematics and science.

APPRENTICESHIP ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

To apply for this course, you must also be registered with an Australian Apprenticeship Support Network Provider and have a training contract with an employer.

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


After successful completion of the Certificate III in Electrotechnology (Electrician) and successfully undertaking the A Grade Unrestricted Electrical License examination, you may undertake further studies to become a Registered Electrical Contractor.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 3
