If you're an aspiring professional in the hospitality industry, our hospitality management course will equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to succeed.

With our qualification, you’ll confidently seek employment in various hospitality venues, ranging from bars and hotels to fine dining restaurants. In our hospitality management course, you'll:

  • gain practical skills in food and beverage service
  • learn responsible alcohol service practices
  • understand workplace hygiene procedures
  • identify and manage legal risks and ensure compliance with the law

Moreover, you'll have the opportunity to work in Box Hill Institute's restaurants to gather real life experiences.

This hospitality management course simulates conditions in a restaurant environment, and you may need to attend classes between 6AM and 11PM Monday to Saturday. However, regular classes will run Monday to Friday during business hours.

Please note: This course complies with Australian and international standards, involves handling and tasting alcohol, and does not incorporate Halal products. Assessment activities may involve products containing alcohol and pork.

Entry Requirements


You may enter into this course without any prior qualifications.

Some level of experience coordinating others is ideal.  Under the training program you will need to meet the selection criteria requirements to be eligible for the course.  Evidence of you meeting the selection criteria will be collected as part of the enrolment process.  

You must:

  • be 18 years or older
  • be an Australian Citizen, permanent resident, or international student VISA holder
  • have completed qualification pathways as above 
  • be current employed in work relevant to this qualification 
  • have Language, Literacy & Numeracy to an appopriate level (determined at enrolment) 

 

PRE-TRAINING REVIEW - to assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, Box Hill Institute will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake a self-assessment review prior to the enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Pathways & Accreditation


Successful completion will enable you to apply for entry to our Bachelor of Hospitality Management with credits for your previous study.

This course is government accredited and has national recognition

The qualification is aligned with the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF) level 5

Course Structure


During your one year journey, you'll dive into the world of hospitality management, completing a total of 28 units. Our program is designed to help you grow step by step, blending face to face classes with online learning through our Student Web platform. You'll attend tutorials, workshops, and maybe even some field trips, all geared towards building your skills in hospitality.

One of the highlights of our program is the practical experience you'll gain. You'll spend time in real restaurant settings right here at Box Hill Institute, learning the ins and outs of the industry firsthand. Timetables are reflective of the units being delivered, and some sessions may occur outside of normal hours to provide you with practical experience, reflecting the nature of hospitality.

Our focus is on preparing you for roles where you'll interact directly with customers, like restaurant manager or bar manager. You'll be on campus four days a week for two semesters, soaking up knowledge and honing your skills.
